Maternal Health Matters! Support Doula Services for All Women.

From: Planned Parenthood of Southern New England:

More women die in the United States from pregnancy-related complications than in any other developed country and we are the only industrialized nation with a rising maternal mortality rate. Black women are three to four times more likely to die from pregnancy related causes than white women according to the CDC. It's time we take every step we can to address this health inequity and prioritize improving maternal health outcomes.

Evidence strongly suggests that providing doula support is likely to reduce these significant racial health disparities, which are tied to social as well as medical factors. Doula care, which includes non-clinical emotional, physical and informational support before, during and after birth, is a proven key strategy to improve maternal and infant health.

We need your voice today to support maternal health and urge your legislators to vote in support Senate Bill 1078 An Act Concerning Doula Certification and Medicaid Reimbursement for Doula Services. (Use this link for an automatic connection to your legislators and to see a sample message.)
