Stand Up for Affordable Health Care through Public Options - Thursday

This Thursday, March 7, the Insurance and Real Estate Committee will hold a public hearing on HB 7267, An Act Concerning Public Options for Connecticut. The bill would offer a number of options to reduce consumer health insurance costs by leveraging the state’s negotiating power (details below).

(Let us know if you plan to attend by e-mailing

  • Tell your story about health care costs and why you need help!

HB 7267 would:

  • Open the Partnership 2.0 Plan, run by the State Comptroller, to small businesses and non-profit employers. Currently, the Partnership 2.0 Plan is open to municipalities and allows their employees to access the benefits of the state employee health plan. This option would be available to small businesses and non-profits by 2020.

  • Establish ConnectHealth to offer high quality, low-cost health insurance to individuals who do not have access to employer-sponsored insurance. The State Comptroller would contract with one or more private insurers to offer this health insurance and would use the state’s negotiating power to lower costs. ConnectHealth would be available by 2021.

  • Study additional options for Connecticut health care consumers.
