Two important health care bills, passed by the CT House of Representatives on bipartisan votes, await action in the state Senate. If the Senate does not act by next Wednesday, May 9, these bills will not become law. Call your state Senator and tell him/her to support immediate action on:
- HB 5210 - This bill puts protections for Essential Health Benefits into CT law. Essential Health Benefits include prescription drugs, laboratory services, mental and behavioral health services, maternity care, pediatric care, preventative services, rehabilitative services, hospitalization, emergency services and ambulatory patient services. The Trump Administration and Republicans in Congress continue to try to weaken federal protections. We need protection at the state level. Fact sheet on the bill here. The bill passed the House by a vote of 114-32.
- HB 5463- This bill mandates a study of health care coverage options for people who are not eligible for Medicaid. The study would be led by the State Comptroller and the Office of Health Care Strategies and would explore options for affordable coverage in CT. See the text of the bill here. The bill passed the House by a vote of 93-55.
